This Bruce Roberts custom trawler
is the aft cabin fly bridge model, professionally built by a
small company in Kars, ON. Five separate vessels were fabricated
prior to closing the company. It sat idle for many years in
“mostly” completed form and has never been cruised outside of
the Rideau system area, between Ottawa and Kingston.
Mr. Bruce Roberts himself has
confirmed the authenticity of this excellent design which is
ideally suited for Great Lakes cruising, the Intracoastal
waterway, Florida & beyond. All steel welded construction with
hollow keel, floors, frames, stringers, and framed transom. It
is also insulated behind all panels to a high level. She is
designed to be lighter than most similar vessels with reinforced
½ inch steel plating at the keel, down to 1/8” plating in other
areas. The stringers and various reinforcing members both
horizontally and vertically are generally between 3/16 & 5/16”.
Her
moderate fuel capacity does allow her to cover fairly extended
cruising distances with very economical Volvo engines (500 to
700 nautical miles). These Volvos are high RPM type diesels and
have shown GPS verified speeds in excess of 8 to 9 knots. Her
normal cruising speed, however, is better for economy at 7 to 8
knots. With her 4 bladed bronze tetradyne 20 inch propellers and
2” stainless shafts, she handles very well and shows tremendous
stability & control. Her twin helm stations are hydraulic and in
excellent condition.
Her interior is mostly beautiful
teak with solid trims where applicable, complete with SOLID teak
and holly floor. Her exterior also boasts solid teak grabrails
and coaming trims, adding flair to its exterior lines. She is a
2 head version with overly large aft stateroom, with separate
enclosed shower. Main saloon midship (very bright), with new
teak dining table and leather recliners. Down 3 steps is galley
(port) and head (starboard), followed by a large V-Berth
enclosed guest cabin.

Please note:
In all, approximately $50K (CDN) has been spent in the past 3 yrs to
finalize the completion of this vessel. However, our plans have
changed and we are sad to realize that we don’t have the necessary
time to fully enjoy this trawler. It can therefore be purchased as
is now at $119,000.00 and we are open to offers. A smaller boat
(power or sail) would also be considered as a partial trade.
Hibiscus has just been surveyed (May 23 2007) and her value is
established at $153,450.00 A copy of this survey is available.
